First Annual Los Angeles Sister City Festival
An all-day event celebrating the twenty-one Sister Cities to Los Angeles throughout the world, took place on May 22, 2005 at the gardens of the Page Museum, East of LACMA near the LaBrea Tarpits, 5801 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. This exciting international free celebration was hosted by Los Angeles City Councilmember and SCLA (Sister City of Los Angeles) President Tom LaBonge.
Festivities included a center stage with non-stop entertainment provided by the different sister cities in dance, music, theatre and folkloric acts. The Festival was comprised of international "villages" representing the various cities, with each village showcasing an array of cultural, artistic and culinary specialties from that city or country. A food court and beer and wine garden also serve gastronomic delights from far-away lands. Our city of Split was represented with a variety of croatian products, booklets on Adriatic and Split and some premium acapella singing by klapa "Konoba" directed by Mate Dušević.
Among the Split crew, we noticed our Consul General Mrs. Sanja Bujas-Juraga, Mr. Tomka, Srećko Duhović, Joško and Elizabeta Ivčević, Luci and Nick Hazdovac, Janie and Ante Bašković, Mirjana Tomić, Sandra Prebanda, etc... la_cro |
